Global Integrity Watch Launches Investigation into NEXIM Bank’s Leadership
London, UK — October 31, 2025
Global Integrity Watch, a London-based transparency and accountability organization, has announced the commencement of an independent investigation into the leadership and management practices of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM Bank) under its Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abubakar Abba Bello.
The investigation, covering the period from 2017 to 2025, follows information and documents obtained by Global Integrity Watch suggesting possible irregularities and misconduct within the institution. According to preliminary findings, the organization is set to examine allegations related to financial mismanagement, contract irregularities, and governance lapses during Mr. Bello’s tenure.
Speaking on the development, a spokesperson for Global Integrity Watch stated that the investigation aims to “uncover the truth, promote accountability, and ensure that institutions entrusted with public resources operate transparently and responsibly.”
The organization further noted that its team of financial analysts, legal experts, and investigative journalists will conduct a comprehensive review of available records, whistleblower testimonies, and public disclosures associated with NEXIM Bank’s operations over the past eight years.
Global Integrity Watch emphasized that the investigation remains independent and objective, with findings to be published in a detailed report upon completion.
Mr. Abubakar Abba Bello, who has led NEXIM Bank since 2017, has yet to issue a public response regarding the impending inquiry.
